Stadt Graz - Unesco Weltkulturerbe

We have put together some highlights for a successful day visit to the Styrian capital:

  • Schlossberg (landmark of the city and classic highlight):

From up there you have the best view of the city.
If you find the climb from “Schlossbergplatz” to the clock tower including over 300 steps or the walk across “Sporgasse” and” Karmeliterplatz” a little too exhausting, you can alternatively take the Schlossbergbahn with its panoramic view or the glass elevator inside the Schlossberg rock.
The valley stations can be reached both on foot and by tram (lines 3 and 5) via “Sackstraße”. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the valley station of the Schlossberg elevator and about 10 minutes to the valley station of the Schlossbergbahn.

On the Schlossberg there is also good food combined with good views provided:

  • Schlossberg restaurant at the top station of the Schlossbergbahn
  • Aiola Upstairs at the elevator
  • the romantic “Starckehouse

  • The Murinsel (the city's new additional landmark):

Get to know the contrast between traditional and modern Graz!
The Murinsel (also known as the floating shell) connects both sides of Graz. You can enjoy a coffee or a delicious cocktail there.
One side of the river represents historic Graz with its narrow, romantic alleyways, small shops, sunny squares and street cafés. Just a few steps across the river Mur will take you to the other side of the city. There you will find the extraordinary Kunsthaus surrounded by the old buildings of the neighbourhood.

  • The Kunsthaus (art house):

It is also affectionately known as “The Friendly Alien”. It fell like a drop in the centre of the city in 2003 and became a modern landmark. The Kunsthaus is connected to the traditional “Iron House”. The Kunsthaus floats like a mysterious blue bubble between the rooftops of the historic city centre. Graz and the Kunsthaus are a magical attraction for visitors from near and far.

  • Guided city tours:

Convince yourself on a city tour why the historic centre of Graz has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Tour of the old town (all year round, 2.30 pm)
  • Tour of the inner courtyards (May - October, every Friday, 4 pm)
  • Urban Art Tour (May - October, every Thursday, 6 pm)

  • City tours:

If you don't like walking, you can also discover the most important sights on a mobile tour.

  • City tour with the electric shuttle
  • Discovery tour with the convertible bus

  • Capital of enjoyment

The Styrians love to eat, drink and enjoy. Graz is considered Austria's capital of enjoyment for a variety of reasons: the southern way of life, the mild climate for fruit, vegetables and wine, the farmers' markets with regional products, the excellent gastronomy and culinary events. It is a flavour experience that is appreciated by locals and visitors alike. Graz is worth an enjoyable visit.
